The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the export value of cocoa and its processed products from Indonesia was US$1.21 billion. This value fell 2.92% from the previous year which was US$1.24 billion. Looking at the trend, cocoa exports have fluctuated in the last decade.
In 2017, the total export volume reached 354.88 thousand tons with a total value of US$ 1.12 billion, increasing to 380.83 thousand tons in 2018 with a total value of US$ 1.24 billion. In 2019, total exports decreased by 5.87 percent to 358.48 thousand tons compared to 2018.
In 2020, the total export volume increased to 377.85 thousand tons with a total value of US$ 1.24 billion, increasing to 382.71 thousand tons in 2021 with a total value of US$ 1.21 billion.
Most of Indonesia’s cocoa production is exported abroad and the rest is marketed domestically. Indonesia’s cocoa exports reach five continents, namely Asia, America, Europe, Africa, and Australia with the main share in Asia.
Export volume to Malaysia reached 55.91 thousand tons or 14.61 percent of Indonesia’s total cocoa export volume with a value of US$ 132.57 million. In second place is China, with an export volume of 51.76 thousand tons or 13.52 percent of Indonesia’s total cocoa volume with a value of US$ 135.85 million.
In third place is India, with an export volume of 50.38 thousand tons or 13.17 percent of Indonesia’s total cocoa export volume with a value of US$ 151.97 million. In fourth place is America with an export volume of 47.00 thousand tons or around 12.28 percent of Indonesia’s total cocoa volume with a value of US$ 215.91 million.
Fifth place is the Philippines with an export volume of 20.44 thousand tons or 5.34 percent of the total cocoa export volume with a value of US$ 46.92 million.
